Board of Awesomeness takes skateboarding to the next high-tech level

The economy is bad and the physical health of the general public isn’t getting any boosters from poopy healthcare policies of governments either. Wile we completely condone ditching eco unfriendly vehicles that consume costly fuels in favor of electric transportation, we somehow cannot reconcile our good senses to the fact that people have become too lazy to move their own bodyweight on a skateboard. This electric skateboard proves all the points that we’re trying to make. Created by Chaotic Moon, the ‘Board of Awesomeness’ is a battery-powered electric skateboard that uses a Kinect sensor and an unreleased Samsung Windows 8 tablet to ensure that the user gets from point A to point B by moving only the muscles of their fingers.

Board of Awesomeness

The high-tech skateboard for lazy folks apparently reacts to the rider and uses a slew of accelerometer data, localization data, speech and gesture recognition and video feedback to navigate through busy city streets at 34 mph. Dubbed the Project Sk8, the motorized board uses the prototype tablet to allow riders to manipulate speed settings. By keeping track of the users’ gestures, the Kinect sensors help the board go faster or slower and make turns when needed.

We’re sure it’s really cool that you can get a skateboard to move forward or backward by flicking your fingers in a certain way, but we still think doing the same with your feet using an unmechanized and ungeeked-out skateboard would be a much cheaper (and much saner) alternative any day.
