With three new babies born every second, load on earth in bound to increase. The growing population is causing serious problems like environmental degradation, ozone holes, water shortage, ocean acidification, any more to continue. Scientists all around the world are working hard to find way out to put off continuous loss of biodiversity. The project “Heaven and Earth” is a similar step in the direction to avert environmental degradation. Taking inspiration from the traditional Shanshui painting that aims to attain the ideal lifestyle, this project is a wonderland floating in the air with mountains, rivers, lakes, forests and even animals.
The basic thought behind its design is to have a place for residing other than earth where problems like food, water, housing, etc. could be avoided. The project is run by Maglev technology that allows it to glide in the air. The force of repulsion between Earth’s magnetic field and aircraft’s magnetic system keeps the city floating in the air with huge number of magnetic molecules spread underneath the vessel. The most interesting fact about this dreamland is that the power necessary for the city would be generated by the rotation of the rounded bottom. Small aircraft with magnetic suspension could be used to commute between earth and the vessel with balance of flight being maintained by rotation of the vessel.
The adroit designer behind this marvel, Wei Zhao of China, revealed the magnum opus at a Skyscraper Competition in 2012. If fabricated into reality, this project will change the face of the earth for good and for goodness.
