Sitbon Architects, a Paris based firm, has designed a beautiful structure that has been named Grenade and was declared the winning entry at the Pfff Inflatable Architecture Competition. The red colored structure looks like the seeds of a pomegranate and will help form a cordial relationship with its surroundings. The structure is movable and can be transported to just any place when need arises.
Grenade is nothing less than a piece of art, which will help promote art and culture all around. The architectural marvel will be used to promote art exhibitions and presentations without remaining restricted to a fixed site. The pavilion can be moved from one town to the other without much difficulty when it is unplugged. The structure will be fashioned in a way that it is visible from a great distance. This makes sure that the pavilion doesn’t get lost amongst other buildings around it and stands out. This is possible because of the volume of the structure, which give it the much needed visibility and that too from a great distance.
The inside of the awe amazing structure is as impressive as its well crafted outer skin. Every single grain or seed in the design unfurls an aesthetically appealing view, which is different for all the grains. Light can easily enter the inside of the structure, hence making people form an instant connection with the deep blue skies. The route that leads to the pavilion is also very special and has a distinctive appearance. It feels as if a few seeds of pomegranate have been scattered all around to create an interesting path, leading to the inside of the pavilion that will be specially used for presentations and readings. Grenade will be created using plastic, which showers a lot of freedom in terms of creativity and designing. The outer skin of this eye catching inflatable structure will be made from plastic and will further influence the behavior of Grenade in general.
The structure is easy to transport and its assembly doesn’t consume much time. The portability of this pavilion will fetch a lot of attention and win many accolades as well. A static pressure of 0036 psi or approximately 1 inch of water is needed to help maintain the desired position of the inflatable structure. But, the pressure needed is directly proportional to the speed of wind that exists outside where it is installed. The lower seeds are filled with sand in order to give some weight to the structure, which helps it resist the effect of lift because of wind or air pressure. The only thing that needs to be understood properly is the main forces that act on the structure, like wind on the outside and the air pressure inside.
Grenade is an amazing inflatable structure that will spread various forms of arts collected from different areas, hence proving that art is a universal language and is understood everywhere.
