Lifesize Williams F1 car topiary wins gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Flower shows are an intrinsic part of the British culture though the seemingly idyllic pastime has been utilized by Chelsea-based growers King & Co to create a stunning topiary that pays a fitting tribute to the 35-th anniversary of the Williams Formula One. Exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show organized by the Royal Horticultural Society, the F1-themed exhibit features a life size replica, in shrubbery of course, of a Williams Formula 1 car along with a checkered parking spot as well as a pit crew carved entirely out of flowers and shrubs.

The gold-medal winning display took over three years to germinate and was completed with a few donated items from the Formula One team including legendary F1 Bruno Senna’s helmet, a pit backdrop and a few actual car parts. The King & Co. exhibit came just days after the Williams Formula One team claimed its first F1 victory in eight years at the Spanish Grand Prix. Also marking the Williams team’s 35 year anniversary, the Formula One-themed garden created in collaboration with the grand prix team narrates the ‘Williams F1 Story’ over the course of 35 eventful years of its history.

The Oxfordshire-based F1 team as well as the Rayne, Essex-based growers were happy with the result as they both have achieved a great level of excellence. What made the day even more special for King & Co. was that the Williams F1 Team founder, Sir Frank Williams was present at the Great Pavilion Awards to cheer the growers on.
